Dear Professor Oshiyama:
Greetings from Taipei! I hope that everything is going well with you.
The Physics Department at National Taiwan University has two Chair Professor positions in Theoretical Physics. Please see
academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/9464.
We would very much appreciate it if you could help us publicize it in the Japanese Physics community. In addition, if you have anybody whom you could recommend, please do not hesitate to let me know. Thank you so much for your help.
Best regards,

Dear Professors Terakura, Maekawa, Oshiyama and Nagaosa,
Thanks to the generous donation of one of our retired colleagues, our Department recently established two endowed chair professor positions in theoretical physics (see the attached poster). We are looking for outstanding candidates who are around 50 or younger. The minimum annual salary is 3.6 M NTDs for life (about 120,000 USD/yrs). Although this is not high in the US standard, it is about at least 2.5 times the salary of an ordinary full professor in Taiwan. Furthermore, the tax is rather low in Taiwan (overall tax rate is less than 15 %).
Please pass on the poster to your colleague and friends, and in particular, if you see some suitable candidates, please encourage him/her to apply.
Thank you very much.
Best regards,
Guang-Yu

Dear Atsushi,
Thank you for your prompt response.
>> More information regarding research environment might be helpful for possible candidates.
Attached is a ppt file that briefly introduces the Physics Dept. The Dept. is a comprehensive one and it has three associated graduate institutes, namely, graduate institutes of Physics, Astrophysics and Applied Physics. It has more than 40 faculty members. Perhaps thanks to our colleagues efforts, Physics of NTU has been ranked within top 50 in the world in recent years by a UK ranking company and it was ranked no. 37 (surprisingly) last year.
The successful candidates will also have two postdocs each supported by the Endowed Fund, and he/she will certainly be able to get two more postdocs from our major funding agency (Ministry of Science and Technology, formerly, National Science Council). Of course, he/she will attract some PhD students. Note that NTU is no. 1 university in Taiwan and hence the Dept. enjoy having the best physics students in Taiwan. The Center for Theoretical Physics of NTU, also supported by the Endowed Fund, is being established, in which the two Chair Professors will be the major players and one of the two will be the Director of the Center.
I hope that the above information may help a bit. Of course, I will be happy to provide further information if asked for.
Best,
Guang-Yu
