演題:Generalized quantum measurements defining work distribution compatible with fluctuation theorems
要旨:Fluctuation theorems known as the Jarzynski equality [1] and the Crooks relation [2] recently have attracted much attention. They relate the work done by far-from-equilibrium dynamics to the difference in the equilibrium free energy. These fluctuation relations were also extended to quantum systems [3]. However, it turns out that the definition of the work in quantum systems is highly non-trivial [4] because the energy measurements that are inevitable to evaluate the fluctuating work necessarily cause non-negligible backaction. The quantum fluctuation theorems [3] were derived on the basis of the two-point projective measurements before and after the driving of the system. The projective measurement though is an idealized operation which is usually difficult to realize in practice. Thus, it would be important to know whether there are generalized measurements in the definition of the work that are still compatible with the quantum fluctuation theorems. Although it
was concluded that the only possibility is the projective measurement in previous work [5], the considered measurements were not of the most general type, and also some arguments suffer from errors. As a result, that specification was incomplete as revealed by the present work. In this work, we rigorously obtain necessary and sufficient conditions on the generalized measurements for the universal validity of the quantum fluctuation theorems.
